Aodhán Gallagher is a mechanical engineering postgraduate at the University of Galway, specialising in computational fluid dynamics and design optimisation, with industry experience in medical device manufacturing and a background in outdoor leadership and international scouting.

Aerofoil optimisation for high-lift airborne wind energy wings

• Incorporate geometric design parameterisation to enable optimisation of the aerofoil.

University club and society committees

2021 – present

• Captain of the mountaineering club: led the committee and was responsible for running the largest club in the university.
• Organised events including international trips, training courses and weekly activities.
• Created operating procedures for climbing and carried out risk assessments to ensure events are safe.
• Maintained equipment and secured over €15,000 of equipment funding for the Rover Society and Mountaineering Club.
• Led the team organising the Maamturks Challenge Walk.

World Scouting European Region Youth Empowerment Team

• Promoted youth empowerment and engagement within the European Scout Region.
• Wrote a regional action plan for youth empowerment in the European Scout Region.

Interests and hobbies

Mountaineering

A lifelong hiker who started climbing at university; has hiked and climbed in Wales, Switzerland, Austria and all over Ireland.

Scouting

Active in scouts at local, national and international level, including the Venture Programme and Youth Empowerment teams.
